Tech 21’s SansAmp Para Driver DI Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The SansAmp Para Driver DI evolved from the SansAmp Acoustic DI, which was released in 1997. In 2005, the new design incorporated a Drive control, footswitchable bypass and was renamed the Para Driver. To commemorate its official 20th anniversary, Tech 21 is issuing a limited edition of just 500 with an anodized precision-machined aluminum billet housing and all metal knobs.

Engineered for both recording and live applications, this 100% analog pedal is useful not only with guitar and bass, but virtually any instrument. Its proprietary SansAmp circuity eliminates the unnatural harmonics of piezo pickups, making it particularly useful with acoustic/electric guitars, as well as upright bass, violin, cello, and viola.

The SansAmp Para Driver dials up big vintage tube tones, bright modern slap sounds, gnarly distortions, and everything in between. There are three different outputs to drive power amps, recording desks, PA mixers, or simply enhance your current rig. Controls include Active Bass & Treble, cut or boost ±12dB; sweepable semi-parametric EQ controls, Mid Shift & Mid, range from 160Hz to 3.0 kHz, ±16dB, respectively. Blend controls the ratio of SansAmp emulation circuitry with the direct instrument signal. There’s a 1/4-inch 4.7 megOhm instrument level input, as well as 1/4” and XLR outputs with selectable levels, and a parallel, uneffected output to run a dry signal to a separate channel.

The SansAmp Tube Amplifier Emulation technology encompasses the entire signal chain, from pre-amp to power amp to speaker simulation. An integral part of the circuitry, the individually tailored SansAmp speaker simulation will complement any type of guitar or bass speaker cabinet system.

Longevity runs in the Tech 21 family, which is not common in the world of electronic music related products. The SansAmp Para Driver is yet another that clearly has withstood the test of time.
