TONE MAPS
Tight Gate
Set the Release fully counterclockwise for the fastest possible response time. This will cause the gate to snap shut the moment you stop playing. Set the Threshold lower for use with hot pickups, high output pedals or in the FX loop of your favorite amp.
Medium Gate
Set the Release to noon for a bit of a looser feel. This will provide a little lag time before the gate closes. Set the Threshold in the middle for use with medium output pickups.
Loose Gate
Set the Release fully clockwise for the most forgiving gating action. This keeps the gate wide open for the longest possible duration between notes. Set the Threshold higher for use with low output, single-coil pickups.
Adjust to Taste
Ultimately the Gatekeeper needs to be tuned to your rig and playing style. Keeping the Release fully counterclockwise generally provides the best performance. Adjust the threshold knob so that the gate stays closed when you are not playing and opens as soon as you play a note or chord.
